Best-selling online products 2025 at a glance

According to our proprietary sales data:

  • Clothing and accessories take the lead of all categories listed at 45-50%

  • Niche products emerge as the runner-up at 25-30%

  • Sports equipment represents approximately 18-20% of all best-sellers

  • Electronics make up roughly 15-18% of the total categories

  • Luxury products still have its place with around 5-8% of the listed products

We examined our proprietary sales data, focusing on the highest-performing brands before categorizing and analyzing their products to identify common themes. These categories don't just dominate our platform; they signal broader eCommerce market shifts.

Now on to the good stuff.

1. Clothing and accessories still dominate the market today

Percentage: 45-50%

Clothing and accessories continue to outperform in the eCommerce sector at 45-50% of the total categories listed. Within subcategories, non-luxury jewelry accounts for about 14%, followed by sportswear (12%) and fashion items (10%).

What successful stores are doing to stand out in this category, observes Cindy, is prioritizing sustainability and ethics. Consumers are increasingly value-driven, actively seeking brands that share their eco-values through refurbished, upcycled, vintage offerings.

And they're willing to pay a premium for it.

2. Niche products surprise as the runner-up

Percentage: 25-30%

Specialty items like collectibles, pet products, and phone accessories represent about 25-30% of the offerings.

"We're moving away from generic products to more customized fits, looks, and content," reveals Cindy. This shift confirms shoppers are rejecting one-size-fits-all solutions and mass-produced pieces in favor of products that are:

  • Physically tailored to their exact specifications (e.g., fleece plush dog toy with precisely positioned squeakers that match their pet's play style)

  • Aesthetically crafted to reflect personal identity (e.g., made-to-order furniture pieces with customized fabric textures and finish options)

  • Functionally optimized for individual needs (e.g., vitamins and supplements formulated with specific ingredients their body requires)

This supports the idea that product configurators like Kickflip can add significant value when targeting passionate niche communities.

By letting shoppers customize and visualize purchases before ordering, you create an emotionally charged co-creation experience that instills customer confidence.

3. Sports equipment is the one to watch

image

Percentage: 18-20%

Sports equipment spans 18-20% of the total listings, with specialized equipment for individual sports (baseball, surfing, etc.) representing approximately 8% of all products.

Like the categories above, we're seeing a surge in customized sporting equipment. In the latest McKinsey report, more physically active consumers see exercise as a defining element of who they are.

It wouldn't be a stretch to say this identity-driven trend presents an opportunity for sporting goods brands. If you're in this category, consider developing customization options that allow customers transform their sports equipment into authentic personal statements.

4. Electronics continues to grow

image

Percentage: 15-18%

Electronics makes up 15-18% of our analyzed market, with gaming-related products (e.g., gaming gear) capturing 60% of this segment.

There's a huge market share in interactive entertainment products. In this sector too, customers look for customization flexibility. Cindy observes growing interest in customizing "both what the product is built with and also its aesthetic, performance and greener design."

5. Luxury is still in the running

Percentage: 5-8%

High-end products like watches and leather goods account for roughly 5-8% across our top brands. While it's a relatively small figure than categories like clothing and accessories, it reflects consumers' willingness to invest in exclusivity despite economic uncertainties.

This market segment seeks uniqueness. Monogram customization, Cindy points out, is common.

It's easy to implement monogramming features on your store in minutes using Kickflip. Here's how it might look when you enable a three-letter monogram on a designer t-shirt.

What products should you sell?

Trends come and go, but the desire for self-expression and individuality remains a consistent purchasing driver across all segments.

While Google Trends, Reddit, and our internal product research data might reveal high-demand products (or products with high search volume), sustainable sales growth hinges on two critical human elements: shared values alignment and a customized shopping experience.

Fall short in any of these areas, and even trending products will flatline at some point.

With this insight in mind, put customization at the heart of your entire store experience, emphasizes Cindy. Not only does customizing both products and customer journeys boost engagement, it also increases conversion rates, sales and profit margins.

At Kickflip, our merchants see up to 50% higher sales using this approach. "Knowing that the process is fluid, [it] will have them coming back," she adds.

"People want to stand out and have genuine fun doing it."

The right product configurator adapts across all market segments. Whether you're a fashion, electronics, or sporting goods merchant, Kickflip offers the fastest way to get your customized product to market...and a pay-as-you-grow model, to boot.
